What If

What if you and I lived out this caption?  What if we made an effort to contribute to every person on our path as if they were somebody with a future and a hope?

What if indeed.

On her last TV show, Oprah Winfrey said:
“I’ve talked to nearly 30,000 people on this show, and all 30,000 had one thing in common.  They want validation.  They want to know ‘do you hear me?  Do you see me? Does what I say mean anything to you?’

Everybody wants to feel like a somebody.

Will you do your part?

I will, for this is my calling in life.

Two Things Everybody Needs

These are critical facts.  Remain standing.

No. 1Everybody wants to be somebody.  Everybody wants to be regarded and valued by others.

We need validation.  We need to know that we matter.  That is a basic human need.

No. 2Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.

We can’t impress others much with our superior knowledge until we touch them on a deeper level with genuine care and concern.  Feelings trump knowledge every time.

That’s all we have time for today.

Class dismissed.

Create Smiles

How many ways can you cause a smile today?

Hold a door open.
Buy the person behind you a latte.

Compliment someone’s shined shoes
Smile at your wait person.
Compliment someone’s excellent service.

Greet someone by their given name.
Say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.
Call a friend just to say ‘hi’.

Tell your significant other ‘I love you’.
Say the ‘I’m proud of you’ words to an employee.
Thank a boss for the job opportunity.

Buy a rose for your significant female.
Buy a new neck tie for your significant male.
Remember your mailman’s name.

One smile, shared sincerely, spreads a bouquet that encircles the world.

What Has Happened to You

I seem to have lost the silver spoon with which I was born.  It was supposed to be my golden ticket to easy street.

I don’t know very many amazing people who didn’t first have to dig out their amazement with their bare hands and grit and determination.

Amazing people work at being amazing, and that definition alone carries many faces.

If you are waiting on the stars to align, people to discover you and money to find you, good luck with that.

If, on the other hand, you do the hard work, perhaps you may discover the amazing creature you were destined to become.

I haven’t stumbled upon my success formula yet.  I have worked hard at some activities and achieved a measure of success.  And I am better for the discovery.

I am making happen whatever is happening in my life.

Let’s ‘happen’ together.

Your Name Is the Beginning

The name starts it all.  For the rest of your life your name is the hinge-pin for all of life’s dealings.

When someone or some organization states that “You’ve got my name on it” it is supposed to mean something.  That is as trade-able a commodity as any money exchange that was ever invented.

My father drilled this concept into me as a young boy.  And he had a sterling reputation in the name of J.A. Biggs.

What does your name say about you?  When I speak your name, what images and senses am I conjuring?

Your name starts it all.  That is why your name is your most important possession on earth.

When people use our name correctly that becomes a moment of high compliment.  We remember those who remember our names.

Cherish your own name and what it represents.
