Quiet

I’m in a small study room on a university campus at the moment.  The only sounds I have heard have been the tapping of my fingers on my computer and the distant air conditioning motor.  What a pleasant retreat.

More and more, I crave this kind of silence.  I have never understood those who say they must have some distracting noise in the background like the TV, or music of their choosing.

I love coming to the quiet.

You should join me sometime.  Find your own space and time and sit, or think, or write, or just BE.

You might hear voices yet unheard, or creativity yet realized.

Maybe …

Magic Can Happen

Through magic I’ve been to Bombay, Moscow, I’ve sailed the high seas and traveled dangerous jungles and dry, hot deserts.

Through magic I’ve rescued a hundred damsels in distress.
I’ve saved a few children from being in harm’s way, and I’ve flown in a hot air balloon.

I have a magical secret.  Listen closely and I'll let you in on it.

This quote from J.K. Rowling will put things in proper perspective.

“I don't believe in the kind of magic in my books. But I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book."
~J.K. Rowling

That is all.

Back It Up

I’ve heard it a hundred times – BACK UP YOUR DATA FILES!

I’ve just spend two hours searching for a document that no longer exists.  It is gone.  In 2011 I read Julia Cameron’s book The Artists Way, and took to heart her directive of writing every day on a document called Morning Pages.  I poured my soul into those pages, and now they are gone.

All I have left is the memory of having done it, and the memory of the therapeutic value that exercise afforded me.

A couple of years ago I began using a pen drive exclusively for all my docs, so now my back-up is always at my finger tips.

Be wise.

Back it up.

Oasis

I have found my oasis.  It is close by, no admission to enter and restorative.

My oasis is under a shade tree at Green Lake here in Seattle.  In the spring and summer months I go there often during my lunch break.  I grab a lite bite, water or soft drink, and find the biggest shade tree available and camp out for an hour.

What a nice break in the middle of my day. It rejuvenates.

Hope you are finding your oasis.

It’s just a wee bit important.
