The Sacrifices We Make at Christmas

The Sacrifices We Make at Christmas

We have a Christmas tree in our bedroom.  First time ever for that.  It is last year’s tree, artificial, 4 ft. tall.  We like it.  The lights are colorful and it is a pretty little 'thang'.

Carolyn can’t sleep at night if we leave the lights on on that tree.  I like them on.  What a dilemma.  So, I’m the noble one and I make the sacrifice.

Now this is silly.  It’s not really a sacrifice.  I love her too much to allow this smallness to interfere.

And we’re not letting any other situations crop up to disrupt this season.

We don’t fight over dark or light meat.
We don’t fight over red lights or blue lights.
We don’t fight over which music to play.
We don’t fight over ANYTHING.

Really, we sacrifice preferences for peace and joy, sharing and caring, fun and laughter.

What sacrifices are you making?

To Take a Hand

To Take a Hand

This is the hand I love to hold.  It has been in my hand for thirteen years now.  We got engaged that long ago.

She walks with me, laughs with me, loves me, guides me when I’m about to make a bad decision, and a whole lot more.

It’s important to have a hand to hold.

“I’m inspired by a quote from Vera Nazarian out of Bits and Pieces today.

Sometimes reaching out and taking
someone’s hand is the beginning
of a journey.  At other times,
it is allowing another to take yours.”

The Greatness That You Are

The Greatness That You Are

We are all great, just in different areas.  Talent comes in differing measures.  And then comes the developing of that talent.

Some people are one-talent people.  And if they do that talent well, to the best possible degree, then they are truly great.

Others find three or four talents in their possession.  Well and good.  Set about developing those as well.

I’m reminded of the three men in the ancient scripture text.

One was given 5 talents and he turned it into 10.
One was given 2 talents and he turned it into 4.
One was given 1 talent and he hid it.  Later, he was rebuked for hiding the one thing he was given.

Take your talent seriously.  See what you can make of it.

Above all, don’t bury it or ignore it.
