OXYGEN

 Oxygen

Let’s think about oxygen. We all need it. Deprive yourself of it for a few minutes and you’ll be desperate for it.

From another point of view, consider this ...
What gives you oxygen? In other words, what inspires you?

Popular motivational books tell us this is our ONE dominate passion. Some call it “our driving force in life.”

I’ve identified my oxygen. It is writing and podcasting. When I first started writing I feared that I would someday run out of ideas and then what?

That has not been the case. It seems one idea leads me to the next, and the next, and ten more after that.

My long-time college friend Harold once told me to slow down in working on my book ideas. He felt I had too many going at once.

This I know ... You will lead a really fulfilling life once you find out what and where your oxygen comes from. And when you do, it just might drive you to places you never dreamed of going.

Bathing Doesn't Last

Bathing Doesn’t Last

I took a bath yesterday.  Do I have to take another one today?  Probably a good idea, unless I want to offend a bunch of people with whom I rub elbows today.

What?  My bath didn’t even last 24 hours?  What a bummer.

Sort of like motivation.  I love what Zig Ziglar once said.

People often say that motivation
Doesn’t last. Well, neither
Does bathing.  That’s why
We recommend it daily.

The Anticipation

The Anticipation

As a kid, I couldn’t wait for Christmas morning to arrive.  On many Christmas mornings, around 2AM, I would sneak out of bed and slip into the living room just to see if Santa had arrived and what all he might have brought me.

On the year I got my bike, I got busted the first time I tried that.  I was sleeping in the same room as my Dad because of extra family visiting for the holidays.  Dad heard the bed springs and in his stern voice, commanded, “Get back in that bed, boy.”

I did.  And slept for another hour or so.  On my second attempt, I made it and discovered that Christmas had come to our home once again.

Ah, the anticipation.

This year, around the first of November is when we began anticipating Christmas.  We started listening to the music, I started turning my thoughts to my writing to see what new stuff I might produce.  Even though I’ve already had Christmas many times over this year, I am still anticipating. I’m on watch for something else that will capture my thoughts, my attention and my heart.

We watch Hallmark movies, and this year, we’ve discovered some new seasonal movies also.

And I'm still anticipating.  Anticipating some new idea, some inspirational thought that will land on me through a song, or a reading or a scripture.

And anticipating the memories CB and I continue to make, not only for this time of year, but for the rest of our lives.

I love anticipating.
     It dresses up like hope.

The Anticipation - The Hope

The Anticipation – The Hope

We put up our two trees yesterday.  Is Christmas here yet?

I started listening to Christmas music in early November.  Is Christmas here yet?

Last Christmas, I was facing heart surgery and hoped I would awaken after surgery.  I did and am thankful for that.

Hope continues.  Anticipation continues.

Hope for continual health improvement.
Anticipation for many more hand-holding times with CB, and meals with the family, both near and far.

Oh, there are the spiritual aspects of Christmas for which I hope also.

And I hope you are finding your own moments that will make your season merry, bright, and hope-filled and that all your anticipations will flow down.

‘Tis the season to be jolly, y’all.

A Cultural Understanding of Thanksgiving

A Cultural Understanding of Thanksgiving

I was talking with three co-workers yesterday about Thanksgiving and the foods we would enjoy.  We were a mixed group – Hispanic, Asian, and two Americans.

Karen, my Asian friend, began describing some of the foods on their table tomorrow.  I can’t even remember it all – except something sweet with pomegranates.

Rico, my Hispanic friend, also called out some
strange-sounding (to me) food choices.

Frank and I, the Americans in the group, named foods that I was more familiar with.  I introduced them to Chess pie.
Bottom line – we all were entering into this week with a sense of giving thanks for what we have – family, life, health, jobs, friends and of course the food.

Thanksgiving is a day in our year – yet it is a spirit that survives every day we live.

I am thankful … today, tomorrow, and on Friday, after the gathering times, and in the middle of the left-overs.
