A Great Mind

A Great Mind

Our guest lecturer today is Immanuel Kant.

His words:

“Great minds think
for themselves.”

Who does your thinking and my thinking?  One thing I’m learning – Facebook is not a good place from which to get your thinking.  And I’m not sure we have many reliable media outlets that give us good sources to trust in order to form our own thoughts.

So, what do we do?

Seek and find reasonable sources, trusted sources.  Easy to say, more difficult to do.

And we do it anyway.

Develop your own inner sense of truth, integrity, reliability.

When the Inspiration Is Gone

When the Inspiration Is Gone

We creative types depend heavily on inspiration.  As a writer, I know this up close and personal.  And when inspiration is gone … ?

I read.  I listen.  I take a step away.

Yesterday, I worked on a post for another blog site I have.  It was not coming together well.  I stopped, re-read, re-visited my original source from where the idea came, deleted a few paragraphs and kept plugging way.  I finally got my inspiration back and was pretty pleased with the results.

Sometimes, I have to physically step away from the process, even to go get a cup of coffee.  The act of moving away and then coming back often helps start me in a new direction or shows me some other insight into what I was originally working on.

I just perused a FAST START magazine and got three blog ideas from it, just from a highlighted passage or two in the articles.

Inspiration sometimes flows fast, and sometimes needs a bit of wooing.

A Bend in the Road

A Bend in the Road

It’s simple, really.  Life does not run in a straight line.  There are bends in the road.  If we don’t take the bend we’re in trouble.

It’s called flexibility.

Some unknown person said this:

“A bend in the road is not the end of the road unless you fail to make the turn.”

I’ve had to make a few turns.  Career-wise, relationship-wise and otherwise.

We follow the road.  Of course, we can get off the road any time, if that is best.  And only you know that answer.

My bends have taken me to some amazingly fascinating places.  I’ve learned a lot, grown, stretched.  The bends have been good for me, after the fact.
